Virtual Turntables for Online DJing
Swagg Brown DJ's virtual turntables aren't decorative graphics — they're a real platter engine. Grab a platter with your mouse, trackpad or a MIDI jog wheel, and every push, backspin and stab reads exactly the way your hand moves. Release, and the motor comes back up like a real Technics.
What the platter can do
Scratching
Baby scratches, chirps, transformers and flares. The audio worklet uses a hybrid velocity + position servo so the audible position stays glued to your hand — grab-stops land where your hand lands.
Backspin & coast
Throw a hard reverse spin and the deck coasts back to speed under natural weighted friction, exactly like real vinyl.
Cueing & stabs
Park on a hot cue point, chirp in on the beat, or launch cue stabs with the crossfader closed for percussive drops.
Pitch bend & braking
Nudge the outer edge to bend pitch temporarily, or release mid-play with brake enabled for a controlled slow-down.
Playback controls the platter shares
- Play / Pause / Cue — dedicated buttons per deck.
- Pitch fader — ±16% by default, per-deck.
- Key Lock — tempo changes keep the musical key, so vocals and instruments stay in tune. Automatically disengages the instant you grab the platter (natural vinyl feel while scratching).
- Slip Mode — scratch and stab cues freely; releasing snaps the deck back to where the track would have been.
- Stutter — hold to machine-gun repeat the current beat, locked to the beat grid.
- Beat loops — engage a live seamless loop from 1/16 up to 32 beats; halve or double it on the fly.
Same gestures translate to hardware
If you later plug in a MIDI DJ controller with real jog wheels, the same scratch gestures apply — the platter engine treats mouse, trackpad, touch, and jog-wheel input as the same kind of hand-driven signal. Why it feels different from most web DJ apps
A lot of "virtual turntable" browser tools are really just play buttons with a spinning graphic. Swagg Brown DJ's platter reads your motion in sub-frame steps and processes it through a real-time audio worklet — the same tech that powers professional web-based DAWs. The result is that scratches sound like scratches, stops land clean, and there's no smearing on the start of a backspin.
